“I heard police or ambulancemen, standing in our house, say, “She must have provoked him,” or, “Mrs Stewart, it takes two to make a fight.” They had no idea. The truth is my mother did nothing to deserve the violence she endured. She did not provoke my father, and even if she had, violence is an unacceptable way of dealing with conflict. Violence is a choice a man makes and he alone is responsible for it.”-Patrick Stewart
I keep finding out more and more things that I love about Patrick Stewart and I keep thinking I could never love him more whoops I guess I’m wrong.
Patrick Stewart is pretty much a perfect human being.
I know I’ve been not paying much attention to Tumblr but ^^^^ this.
I got to see someone with a history of stalking and threats of violence given a Domestic Violence conviction with a small fine and recommendation - not a court order, just a recommendation - that he seek counseling, because the legal wording was that yes, by hitting the girl he was living with so hard her eye was swollen shut for a week and she’d been found sitting out front of the apartment in a pool of her own blood from the nosebleed, he was inarguably guilty of violence, but the judge gave minimal consequences because:
After three years of consistent verbal and emotional abuse on his part including repeatedly expressing that she had the intelligence of a dog and anything coming from her was useless, stupid, and wrong, again with a history of stalking and violence threats going back eight or nine years with other women and him having nearly been kicked off a college campus for it, she raised her voice at him and stormed out and was arguing, therefore the attack was provoked. There were a few days of the DV trial, where I was one of the witnesses having been one of the people the guy had stalked/threatened, that focused on interrogating the victim about what she might have done to provoke him, while my testimony was basically cut off after ten minutes and handwaved as unimportant.
Later on, after various threats and this same man proclaiming that he was going to sue for custody of the child he’d previously wanted nothing to do with “Because it will hurt her”, the same judge considered the DV order “not an issue” because “Well he hit her after provocation in an argument, so it wasn’t REALLY a risk factor”.
People like Patrick Stewart that’re visible, high-profile, and respected speaking up on this is priceless and needed.

Because I feel this needs reiteration from time to time.
You are not a Sally because:
- …you care about social justice.
- …you are a feminist.
- …you disagree with someone.
- …you respond rudely to someone who is being rude to begin with.
You are probably a Sally if:
In the name of social justice,…

Do you remember SOPA? The bill that would give government the right to spy on internet activity without warrant, and let them censor “unwanted” sites by blocking people’s access to them?
Meet its twin. But this time it’s all the more frightening; the House has passed it despite Obama’s threats to veto. And by an alarmingly large margin, at that. CISPA threatens the US constitution’s guarantees of due privacy and free speech, permitting any government agency to access and transfer of vast amounts of data- from internet records to even the content of personal e-mails, and all without obtaining a warrant.
What’s even more disgusting than this bill actually making through the House is some of the arguments used to help it’s passage, and comments made by one of the bill’s biggest supporters admitting the bill helps big business while insulting opposers (whose is also speculated to have personal reasons for wanting CISPA made into law).
This threatens every element of your online presence. From personal emails to general activity, any government agency will have the ability to go fishing without consequence.
Please, PLEASE, sign the following petitions. You don’t even have to be a US citizen to sign most of them or act against CISPA, and please keep in mind that if this shit flies in America, who knows what country might use its example to do it, too.
Petition: Avaaz: Save the Internet from the US
(you don’t have to be a US citizen to sign this)Petition: Sites Not Spies
(you don’t have to be a US citizen to sign this)Petition: CISPA is Back: Write Congress
Petition: Tell Mike Rogers more that 14-year-olds oppose CISPA
(you don’t have to be a US citizen to sign this)Twitter: Tweet @RepMikeRogers with your age
Twitter: Tweet @BarackObama and tell him to veto CISPA
Twitter: Tweet reps like @RepDelBene, @GovHankJohnson, @KeithEllison and @GovGaryJohnson and thanks them for acting against CISPA. Look for other reps that have spoken against it, and thank them.Call your reps: and tell them you strongly oppose the bill. You can look up your reps using the form on the lower portion of this page.

i wanna talk about something that i’m sure nobody here is about to take kindly to. it’s something that i’ve actively told myself i won’t even talk about on tumblr because tumblr’s typical idea of “social justice” is an…
I’ve actually had cases of “…wow, huh, this is a panic attack/more shaky than I’ve felt in years” due to Social Justice Warriors with things like the above spending a few hours verbally browbeating me where it took a few days to realize that I’d gotten a lot of the same condescending “anything that disagrees with me isn’t thinking right/is being stupid and needs Educated and if something hurts you you’re WRONG for being hurt by it” mentality from the guy who stalked me for two years and had me in fear for my life.
Nevermind this other problem with it? I’m in a same-sex relationship and dealing with abuse/legal issues for that where I’m hanging on election and debate results so I might be able to rescue my partner/fiancee from an abusive household out-of-country. I’ve been actively threatened by co-workers and had acts of pretty severe vandalism over that whole “yeah I was out trying to support the equal-rights ordinance” thing. I’ve also been harassed before for being female in a male-dominated job (“Oh look we got the secretary I won’t deal with you let me talk to the real techs women couldn’t possibly understand how to fix a computer”) and gotten the Rape Culture “Well he’s been nice to you so it’s not that bad to sleep wtih him and give him what he wants why are you being so mean to him by telling him you don’t want a relationship?” from “friends” over aforementioned stalker. Yet, every time I deal with a Social Justice Warrior, that is not enough to get around “You lost the oppression olympics by being white, YOU DESERVE TO BE HURT AND IF YOU DON’T LIKE ME TELLING YOU WHAT A HORRIBLE MONSTER YOU ARE THAT DESERVES TO SUFFER YOU’RE WRONG AND BAD NOW LET ME LAUGH AT YOUR SUFFERING.”, where I’ve had hours/days of Social Justice Warriors telling me why I deserve to have people hate me and abuse me and anything wrong done to me is “justified” for being white, including death threats and the aforementioned abuse from co-workers. Yep. I’ve been told I deserved to be abused, threatened, and possibly murdered for being in a same-sex relationship because I was white and therefore not Really Oppressed, FROM PEOPLE WHO CLAIM TO BE FEMINISTS AND FOR LGBTA RIGHTS.
Yes.
I have been told that I deserved things like rape threats and threats of violence by a so-called “feminist and women’s rights Activist” who dismissed them as “Aw lookit the poor hurt whitey fee-fees”, and then was verbally abused for a good few hours about how I deserved it all for being white when I expressed being uncomfortable with it. Let that sink in for a minute and think about that.
This is not “Social Justice”, this is petty vindictiveness, bile, hatred, and destructive cruelty.

our world is kind of awful
No. Our world is great. For every one person that plants a bomb, you have hundreds more running a marathon. For every one person that makes a joke about the dead and dying, you have thousands more donating blood, offering prayers, and volunteering their time. Things like this are the fault of single individuals who make violent, loud statements. We just have to make sure that the statements of the good are louder.

how does mukuro even afford beats he’s a broke ass middle schooler living with other hobo children in an abandoned building he probably stole them
Well, they didn’t exist before Verde was talking to him, and after he decided to stop playing ‘I’m not listening” they disappeared again…
So my money’s on “The illusionist is a BRAT and those aren’t real”…
But if he does own anything like that it’s probably stolen. (I want to know how he convinced MM he could pay her.)

“The reason people don’t go for help is because there is still stigma. People don’t talk about mental illnesses the way they do other illnesses.” [Maria Bamford] launches into impressions of people talking about physical maladies the way they talk about depression:
“Apparently Steve has cancer. It’s like, fuck off! We all have cancer.”
“I was dating this chick all this time and she let me know she’s been wearing contact lenses. I said whoa, do what you need to do but I don’t believe in all that Western medicine shit. If you wanna see like other people it’s all about attitude. You gotta want it.”

People shouldn’t be doing fat acceptance as much as people shouldn’t be promoting anorexia. Guess what? They’re both unhealthy.
It’s good to be comfortable in your own skin, and sometimes you can’t help but be the way you are. It makes me angry though, there are magazines…
I will note here that I hear a lot of “I wish I had your figure/could hold your weight” things and by most health standards, I’m typically underweight, to the point that my height/weight/etc. leads to the Red Cross turning me away at blood drives. (I give a lot of “No you don’t” replies, even though my case is basically a number of small annoying “If I try and eat over a certain amount at any one time I get really sick” etc. factors and has mostly never been seriously, life-interfering problematic.)
Which means that if people’s normal perception is that you have to have something like my general mass to be “not fat”? Then something is really, seriously, blindingly wrong, beyond just how “don’t abuse people” should be a standard, general rule, because the apparent societal idea of “fat” and “overweight” and “My god I should feel ashamed of myself and it’s normal for people to pick on me and feel justified” is “any weight above what either indicates physical annoyances that technically aren’t great for your health or anorexia”, which probably explains why there’s so many eating disorders and fad diets that can be blindingly bad for the body.
And really. How hard is “Don’t abuse people and don’t be judgmental, condescending, and abusive towards them” to grasp?
